Arnott brings home the biccies

Young winger Jack Arnott scored 4 tries as Taunton Titans finished their pre-season fixtures with a win against visitors Ivybridge at Hyde Park. Scoring 53 points ought to fill the Titans with confidence ahead of their first National League 2 encounter of the season this coming Saturday when they host Bournemouth. There will be concerns about the defence, however, having conceded 38 points to the Devonians.

It’s a rare game of rugby when you can notch up a cricket score and still not have imposed yourself fully on your opponents but, in many ways, it will be the team from the South West Premier League who will be the happier with the outcome of Saturday’s match. Captain Dan Lee crossed for the day’s first try and he was a dynamic, mobile presence throughout. Elsewhere in the pack, Cory Teague impressed from the second row, both in set piece play and in the loose whilst veteran Gary Kingdom bossed a back division that boasted great pace out wide through Arnott, fellow winger Aron Struminski and Nick Mason, pressed into covering full back duties.

With Head Coach, Tony Yapp, returning to take charge after playing in Phil Dollman’s testimonial game in Exeter, this Saturday sees the Titans’ bid to launch their league campaign with a win. Get yourself down to Hyde Park for the 3pm kick-off – and while you’re there, why not treat yourself to one of the delicious steak pasties from Proper Cornish who will be at every home Taunton Titans fixture this season?
